We’ve received a huge number of incredible submissions and our design team has spent the last 3 days pouring over everyone of them. While there are a large number of deserving entries, unfortunately we could only pick a few as winners. Without further ado here are the results:
First Place – jukeboxdesign

We loved the Chef part of the design – classy, nice font, cool concept. While we selected this as the winner, we would have loved to see an additional design element in the first half of the logo (and change the colors). We would like to give some feedback to the designer and work with them to come up with a final design.
Second Place – pinksoda
Simple and elegant. This could be a logo for anything though, doesn’t tie in the Chef theme (not necessarily a bad thing). Well done!
This was a really tough one for us and we ended up having a tie for third place. Both will receive the full third place prize.
Third Place (1) – studio6t9

We loved the color scheme – very original. The coffee stain concept was great too, only problem was the “d” wasn’t that recognizable.
Without knowing why we all really loved this design! It’s very fun and creative (sometimes less is more)!
Honorable Mentions
There were a few other designs that were great but didn’t make the final cut. We’d like to highlight some of our other favorites as well (in no particular order).
zigndog
Colors are awesome. Isn’t a great logo though, at a small size, wouldn’t be very recognizable. Font could be improved.
The mustache favicon is incredible. Best favicon out of the bunch. Colors/Chef’s Hat/Font needs some work…
harshalpanchakshari
Clear recognizable logo, unfortunately something feels missing. Execution was very clean – nicely done.
sunilvp22
If this wasn’t an out of the box font (Sketch Rockwell), this logo might’ve won.
archys187
Very fun design. All of this designer’s submissions were creative and used different concepts. Nice Job!
mallikag
This would be an awesome poster, great concept though not great for a logo.
nomics
Well executed, proportions were a little off though. Really nice!
cod3rs
Totally rockin’ design! Unfortunately a little off-topic.
There were certainly other great designs that were submitted but unfortunately we could only recognize a few. Thank you all for your participation. We had a lot of fun with this and hope you did too.
Stay tuned for future contests. UX results will take a few more hours…
Cheers,
The Chef

Thanks Chef and congratulations to all mentions.
Awesome designs! Very clever use of the knife as the “f”!
well. could we know what the judges panel was like?? and what was the criteria of judging since you had to go through at least a thousand submissions…
@Priyanka You are right, we should have explained this. The judging panel consisted of three members of the Directi design team:
* Ninad Raval who manages User Experience and Design
* Shailendra Salekar who is a senior graphic designer
* Manasi Gadkari who is a graphic designer
They did a first pass of all the submissions, anyone which could be considered for contention was put aside. We were left with about 300 submissions.
Then each of the selected design was given a score out of 5 for the following criteria:
* Originality
* Typography
* Use of Color
* Execution
* Recall Value
* Portability to different media
* Communicates both Design and Chef
There were about 10 designs that we felt clearly were a cut above the rest. We then had an internal discussion were we reviewed the merits of each design and came up with the winners. There is no clear cut science to the grading of the designs, this was in large part based on the panel’s personal preference and opinion.
To be frank, we didn’t feel like any of the designs were “the one.” They all left something to be desired. We didn’t feel comfortable going with any of them for the final design. In the end, we hope to iterate on the one we selected and come up with something we are happy with internally. I hope this adds transparency into the process, please note this was a very difficult decision and I’m sure another judging panel might have graded the designs differently. In future contests, we hope to bring in other judges from academia and industry. If you have any suggestions, please let us know.

great! thanks for the fun contest!
I bumbped into this website right when the competition got over! I love logo design myself and had a look at those winning entries;I must say they’re really good! I had the same idea of designing a knife instead of the letter ‘F’…very well done. The others are commendable too.
Keep up the good work, they all smell good!
hi,
thank’Q’ guys for liking my design.
I think all the entries are quite awesome and I had a pretty tough competition…haha!
all the very best to all the designers….
rock the design world,
luv…jay.
Nice explorations… Unfortunately winning logo is not creative by any chance, apart from that it reads ‘Design Chel’ not ‘CHEF’
^^ agreed
well we all know that the last letter is ‘F’ but what about the people who visit the site first time… i think they surely will read it like ‘code chel’ lol
im typically wandering on the internet most of the evening and so I have a propensity to read considerably, which is not generally a beneficial factor as several of the sites I look at are made up of useless trash copied from various other web pages a zillion times, however I’ll hand it to ya this blog is certainly quite informative and also consists of a lot of original information, so cheers for splitting the phenomena of simply just duplicating other peoples’ blogs, if you ever want to try a few hands of facebook poker with me just let me know – you have my e mail
super post and umpteen cheers for the contact. Your thoughts arrived over as perfect and experienced, and are referenced throughout the subject.
Solar panels, in my eyes, are one of the best investments a home owner could make due to them lasting for many years and producing energy for as long as they last. The price of electricity will only go up so solar panels will only become a better investment. Have found some useful tips about buying Solar Panels and I will use them when I purchase panels myself.
